Sheet Music

Private Lessons

All of the most celebrated musicians share a common gift of creating musical stories which touch the hearts of people all around the world. Some work tirelessly at their craft, studying the intricacies of melody and counterpoint, while others are able to convey a depth of emotion using only two chords, sometimes even just one! With the right tools, anyone at any level can learn to write songs that are heartfelt and speak to the hearts of others.

There are three main areas of focus that I address when teaching students how to become composers or songwriters:

  1. Music Theory: Proficiency to the level that is necessary to facilitate creative ideas

  2. Listening: Studying the structure and composition of your favorite music

  3. Creating the music: How and when to get into a creative headspace, how to structure songs and fill in the gaps between ideas

Through my songwriting and composition lessons,  anyone can learn to get in touch with their inner creative spark and write music that they're proud of!

Learn what you want to play!

The #1 complaint I hear from my students who have had other teachers in the past is that their teachers required them to learn material that they had no real interest in playing, week after week. A lot of people don't realize that music lessons don't have to be this way!

You can absolutely improve at music through learning the material that you're interested in playing, and my lessons are based around using this material to explore core ideas that will fundamentally change the way you look at music. Once you understand these ideas, your playing will improve at a much quicker pace, and you'll be learning your favorite music in the process!

The best players are also the best listeners.

This is understood by all of the greatest musicians in the world, and I believe it applies perfectly to teaching music as well. I'll be listening to how your playing is coming along, but also setting time aside to check in with you about the areas in which you're excelling, where you feel you need work, how you're meeting your musical goals, and if you're having the maximum amount of fun with your instrument! Communication is key and I make sure every student is heard.

This is why my students are excelling in so many different areas of music. I'm helping aspiring jazz pianists, hip-hop producers, campfire guitarists, and video game composers all improve their craft. Instead of teaching the same set of rules to everyone, I teach my students how to sound like themselves!
